Overview of Chapter Eight:
In this chapter Abhinava expounds the Path of the Worlds (bhuvanādhvan). From the earliest period of the development of the Tantras, we observe that initiation can be imparted by leading the initiand up progressively through the universe constituted of world orders set in successive layers one above the other. They begin with the Fire of Time and travers through the Egg of Brahmā that is in the Earth principle and up, through the rest of the principles, beyond the worlds to Śiva. Although Abhinava, in accord with his own exegetical project accepts the Mālinīvijayottara as his prime authority, the cosmology of presented there is very concise and so he draws most of his account from chapter ten of the Svacchandatantra. There we find very detailed account of the worlds, their Lords and inhabitants.
Learn the structure of the Shaiva universe and project it into the body. Travel up through the worlds, cleansed of Karmic Impurity and Māyā progressively as you rise through ever extending expanse of space and divine consciousness to ultimately fuse into and become who you truly are: Śiva and Śakti.
