Somewhere around 1020, it is said that Abhinavagupta entered in “Bhairava Cave” together with some of his disciples, chanted his favorite hymn to Bhairava: Bhairava Stava. Since then, Abhinavagupta has not been seen in human form, was an alchemical transformation of his body in the pure light of consciousness.
“O compassionate Lord, under the influence of your glory and for the benefit of your worshipers, I Abhinavagupta have composed this hymn. By meditation and recitation of this hymn within a moment that merciful Lord Bhairava destroys the torments and sufferings springing from this wilderness of saṃsāra.”
